The Spanish luthier José Luis Marin was born in Malaga in 1944. The son of
Ramón Marin Gómez (b.1909), he is a second generation guitar maker. He began working with his father when
he was eleven. By 1965, he was building guitars under his own label.
Ramon Marin Gomez retired in 1975, and Jose Luis inherited the shop when he
later died. His
flamenco and classical guitars are entirely handmade using top grade materials.
He specializes in concert classical and professional flamenco guitars. One of the
interesting innovations he uses are double holes in the bridge through which each
string is tied. This system provides contact between strings and the nut and significantly
improves tone and volume. Because he lives in a small city, his overhead is much lower,
so his guitars are priced considerably less than comparable instruments made
by luthiers working in major cities. |
