Arturo Huipe is one of the
best luthiers in Mexico. He is among those few guitar makers (from whom I would buy
in Paracho, Mexico) because he uses prime woods and materials, and takes great care
to control the humidity in his workshop. In fact, to make sure his guitars are stable,
he lets them season 6 to 7 years before finally finishing them.
Both in workmanship and tone, these handmade instruments compare favorably to many
classical guitars that would sell for hundreds of dollars more. His
Fleta model classical guitar while not a copy, is inspired by Fleta's
sound, and has the
volume one expects from a concert instrument--it is responsive,
well-balanced between basses and trebles, has excellent clarity, and a
very wet, rich, colorful tone.
