Santos Hernandez was the maker who built Andres
Segovia's 1912 Manuel Ramirez guitar while worked for Ramirez. The sound of his
concert classical guitars speak for themselves. The
label has been signed and dated by Santos Hernandez, and bears the maker's stamp
neck block. The underside of the top is also signed and dated. This guitar was
restored in 1981 by J. Farré, a luthier in
Barcelona, (b.1928), and the guitar also carries his
label stating that he restored this instrument. The restoration
repaired a number of cracks on the back, including one that crossed the original
label, and hairline cracks on the top. The restorer also refinished the guitar
using, as did Santos Hernandez, French polish. This guitar has a top of German spruce, and Brazilian rosewood
back and sides. Everything, including the tuners, appears to be original. The
neck is straight, and the action at the 12th fret, 6th string is set at 3.5mm.
