This beautiful handmade flamenco guitar was made by Lorenzo Alvarez Gil who began making guitars in the 1940's with his older brother Juan Alvarez, both of whom were initially cabinet makers. The Alvarez brothers were befriended by Marcelo Barbero (1904-1956) who gave them advice and introducing them the techniques of Santos Hernández (Marcelo Barbero had succeeded Santos Hernández in building guitars for his widow). Lorenzo Alvarez opened his own workshop where he worked until his death. His work will remain faithful to the teaching of Barbero in the filiation of Santos Hernández. The craftsmanship and the aesthetics are well realized. Lorenzo's guitars are characterized by their powerful woody and expressive voice, and notes that are clear and singing. This guitar's action is very flamenco, 2.2 mm at the 12th fret on the 6th string, and 1.7 mmm on the first, so is a real joy to play. The guitar has had no repairs, but the ebony fingerboard has an easily repaired, tiny, and insignificant crack at the 18th fret. The french polish shows some small scratches, but is good in general.
