I picked this little Torres model classical guitar up this summer while in Mexico, being just the kind of guitar I like.  Roberto Escobedo Hernandez is a member of a distinguished family of luthiers who have won prizes for their work. Roberto likewise has won a first place prize in the Feria Nacional de Guitarra in 2004 for one of his guitars. Like other members of the Escobedo-Hernandez clan, Roberto builds in the Spanish style, and there is little except the label that would identify this as a Mexican guitar. The workmanship is first class, and the visual aesthetics are very Spanish. Among the nice touches are the twelve hole bridge which permits a sharper break angle for the strings as they cross the saddle, producing greater downward force, and more volume. The guitar is nicely balanced with solid basses, and lovely, exceptionally clear, singing trebles. This guitar with a easy change in the setup, and the addition of a tap plate would make a outstanding flamenca negra.
