Pedro Maldonado hijo was born in Loja, Granada in 1959. He is the eldest son the Spanish luthier, Pedro Maldonado Sr, born 1929, being two years older than his brother, Luis. Both brothers began working with their father when they turned fifteen.

This flamenca negra made by Pedro (hijo) in 2009 is build with Palo Escrito (a.k.a Mexican Rosewood). Palo santo is a true dalberia rosewood in the same family of rosewood as Brazilian, Madagascar, and Indian Rosewood, and makes for both a spectular looking guitar, but more importantly a wonderful sounding flamenca negra. After so many years working together,  the brothers work is indistinguishable from their father's, though each signs his own name. Like their father's, each brother's flamenco guitars possess the duende that flamenco players seek. This guitar is no exception.
