This is Paulino Bernabe's latest model which he calls the ideal. Paulino showed me the prototype last summer when I stayed with him. I was impressed then, and I am even more so with the final product. This model incorporates a revolutionary system of attaching the top and back directly to the sides, without bindings--which makes all the parts function as a whole. This principle of has long been used in violins, where the perfling creates a hinge, that allows the top to vibrate more freely. Paulino has adapted this principle to the guitar by rounding the edges of the top. The result is a much more responsive and powerful guitar. I am astounded by how powerful and sensitive this guitar is-- it is as loud or louder than any double top or lattice-braced guitar-- yet retains the characteristic Bernabe bold Spanish tonality.
