The luthier Wolfgang Jellinghaus was born in Dortmund, Germany in 1951. His father was a guitar maker, Wolfgang learned the craft from him. In 1978, he opened Musik Jellinghaus GmbH, and in 1983 he founded Martinez Guitars. Fast forward, in 2003 in partnership with Kenny Hill and Alex Wang, Wolfgang helped set up the Martinez guitar factory in China. In 2013, Wolfgang sold Musik Jellinghaus GmbH, and set up Milestones of Music, a small boutique traditional workshop dedicated to building a line of custom guitars designed to capture the essence of the greatest guitar makers.

The model 1912 Ex-Segovia model pays tribute to the guitar that Manuel Ramirez gave Segovia in 1912. In making this guitar,  Wolfgang utilized the bench model plans that Richard Brune has published. Even so, they required some interpretation. In designing this model, Wolfgang wanted offer a guitar made with sustainable woods, so although the original was made with Brazilian rosewood, this model's back and sides are of European maple. The quality of the German spruce, Wolfgang chose for these guitar is among the best I have ever seen. Likewise, the European maple he picked is magnificent. The craftsmanship is flawless, as is the French polish.
