This 1970 Lorenzo Pimentel Grand Concert #2 is a superb example of American lutherie. Built in Albuquerque, New Mexico by one of the most respected names in classical guitar making, it reflects the Pimentel family's unwavering dedication to fine craftsmanship and tonal richness. The top is Spanish western red cedar, prized for its warmth and responsiveness, while the back and sides are beautifully figured Brazilian rosewood, offering clarity, depth, and excellent projection.
The guitar's natural lacquer finish is in remarkable condition, with no cracks, dings, or repairs—an impressive testament to over fifty years of careful preservation. The neck is straight, and the action is well-balanced: 7mm at the sixth string, 5mm at the first, with 4mm and 3mm of exposed bone respectively. The tuners are high-quality German machines, smooth and precise, though the maker is unspecified.
The hand-signed label confirms its authenticity, and the guitar remains in excellent condition, both visually and structurally. It is a rare opportunity to own a concert-level instrument from a celebrated American luthier, crafted from top-tier tonewoods with no compromises in playability.
Lorenzo Pimentel (1906–2010) was a master luthier and founder of Pimentel & Sons Guitar Makers in Albuquerque. His instruments are known for their expressive voice, structural precision, and graceful design—blending traditional Spanish lutherie with innovations suited to modern concert players. Today, his sons, including Rick and Robert Pimentel, continue the legacy of handcrafted excellence under the family name.
