Paulino Bernabé Roman, the distinguished Spanish luthier born in 1960, is the son of the world class gitar maker Paulino Bernabé Almendariz (1932-2007). Paulino Bernabé II literally grewn up in his father's workshop. In the early 1980s he formally began working with his father. For over twenty-five years, father and son worked together harmoniously, their collaboration blurring the lines between their individual contributions. Paulino Sr. held his son in high regard, often referring to him as his "best and most faithful disciple." Paulino Jr.'s craftsmanship became virtually indistinguishable from his father's, a testament to their shared dedication to the art of guitar making. Like his father, Paulino Jr. is not only an exceptional craftsman but also an innovator. He consistently explores new techniques and sound qualities in his quest to enhance the construction and tonal attributes of the guitar. His commitment to pushing the boundaries of guitar making has solidified his reputation as a master of his craft and a torchbearer of his family's legacy.

The 2017 Paulino Bernabe Goldmedaille concert classical guitar is a masterpiece of built with a combination of carefully chosen woods. The guitar boasts a Canadian cedar top, which is highly regarded for its warm and responsive tonal qualities. Cedar is known for producing rich, vibrant tones, making it a popular choice for classical guitar soundboards. The back and sides of the guitar are made from Lauro Prieto wood. Lauro Prieto is a less common choice but is favored for its unique tonal properties. It is known for producing a distinct and well-balanced sound with a pleasing combination of warmth and clarity. Further enhancing its resonance, richness of tone, and projection, this model is built double sides, the inner side being of cedar. The guitar is finished with a French polish, a traditional and labor-intensive method of finishing that involves applying thin layers of shellac by hand. This results in a stunning, glossy appearance that enhances the guitar's natural beauty while allowing the wood to vibrate freely for optimal sound quality. It is fitted with highest quality Rogers machine tuners. New this guitar sold for $12,500. This particular guitar exhibits is in exceptional condition, delivering a warmly expressive sound that can be easily molded to suit the musician's preferences. It enjoys a well-established reputation among professional guitarists, and it serves as a testament to why P. Bernabe's guitars rank among the finest Spanish instruments available today.
